Marijuana is legal for recreational consumption in Virginia, so why should you get a medical card even if you qualify? For the perks! Here are just a few…

  • Immediate legal access to marijuana The most significant benefit is immediate, legal access to state-regulated dispensaries. While recreational possession is legal, there are currently no legal recreational dispensaries to purchase from in Virginia.
  • Lower Taxes: Medical cannabis purchases are exempt from high excise taxes (potentially 21% or more) leading to significant cost savings. Your medical card will quickly pay for itself in savings.
  • Higher possession and purchase limits/legal protections - Cardholders in Virginia may purchase and legally possess 4 ounces in a 30 day period. Recreational users may legally possess only 1 ounce at any time.
  • Access to minors - Minors with a qualifying condition may have a medical card with a registered parent or legal guardian. Other marijuana use is strictly prohibited for persons under the age of 21.
  • Access to specialized products Medical dispensaries carry higher-potency options (stronger edibles, concentrates, etc.) and specific CBD/THC ratios tailored to medical needs, which may not be available in the recreational market.
  • The state of Virginia has not limited the conditions for which a medical card may be obtained. You may participate in the medical cannabis program if a healthcare provider determines that you are a good candidate for the program. If you schedule your video call with us now you may have your certificate in a few minutes.
